Pleasant Weather Ahead as Rainfall and Decreased Temperatures Expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a shift towards pleasant weather in the country as more rainfall and decreased temperatures are expected from next week onwards. According to the PMD, temperatures are likely to remain below normal across the nation during the upcoming week.

Several areas, including various regions in Balochistan, Sindh, and Punjab, are expected to experience wind, dust, thunderstorms, and rain. The PMD has identified specific locations such as Quetta, Karachi, Multan, and Sahiwal where these weather conditions are likely to occur on May 28 (evening/night) and 30.

In addition, Kashmir's Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and other regions such as Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, and Islamabad will also witness rainfall, accompanied by wind, dust, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms in some areas.

The PMD advises concerned authorities to remain vigilant during this forecast period to prevent any untoward situations caused by the expected dust and wind storms. There is a possibility of damage to structures and standing crops in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, and Kashmir between May 28 and 30.

Farmers are urged to exercise caution, and tourists are advised to plan their activities accordingly. The general public is also warned to seek safer locations during dust storms and thunderstorms.

NDMA's Warning on Extreme Climate Events

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recently issued a warning to provinces to prepare for extreme climate events, including heatwaves, snow melting, landslides, flash floods, forest fires, and cyclones. The NDMA's advisory, based on a letter sent to provincial governments, emphasizes the need for extraordinary preparations to face potential extreme climate events between April and October.

The letter also highlights the higher temperatures forecasted by the PMD for northern regions and the coastal belt during May to July. Provinces, including Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, have been informed to take necessary measures to ensure disaster preparedness.

Earlier this month, the PMD issued a rain-thunderstorm forecast from May 22-26, prompting the NDMA to issue an advisory alert to all relevant federal and provincial departments, urging them to implement disaster preparedness measures.
