Nation Commemorates 'Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada' to Honor Martyrs

Today, the nation observes 'Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan' (Martyrs Reverence Day) to pay tribute to the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives while defending the country and its people. The main event took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir as the chief guest. COAS Gen Asim Munir, along with other prominent personalities, laid flowers at the martyrs' monument, expressing their deep respect for the fallen heroes.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, former chairman joint chiefs of staff committee Gen (retd) Nadeem Raza, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman, and other notable figures from society. Various events featuring Quran recitation and prayers are being held across the country, along with commemorative ceremonies at martyrs' memorials.

COAS Asim Munir declared May 25 as "Pakistan Martyrs' Day" and strongly condemned the attacks on army installations, monuments, and memorials that occurred on May 9. He emphasized the importance of a strong army in safeguarding a nation's security and unity, highlighting the unwavering dedication of soldiers and officers who prioritize their duty above regional, linguistic, and political differences.

President Arif Alvi expressed pride in the valiant martyrs and their unwavering patriotism. He commended the armed forces for their role in combating terrorism and their assistance during natural disasters and the ongoing pandemic. President Alvi urged the nation to honor and remember the sacrifices of the martyrs, reaffirming the commitment to show gratitude and admiration for these courageous sons and daughters of the nation.

Similarly, PM Shehbaz Sharif called on the people, especially children, to visit monuments and graves of martyrs, symbolically showering them with flowers as a gesture of affection and respect. He emphasized that Pakistan should demonstrate to the world its reverence for martyrs, displaying the nation's strong bond with those who sacrificed their lives for its defense.

In a tweet, PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed regret and condemned the May 9 violence and desecration of martyrs' monuments, acknowledging that these incidents gave cause for celebration to the enemy. He affirmed the nation's commitment to uphold the honor and respect of the martyrs, underscoring the profound connection between the Pakistani people and the martyrs.

PM Shehbaz Sharif tweeted:
Today the nation is solemnly observing Youm-e-Takreem Shuhada-e-Pakistan to pay its glowing tributes to our heroes, Ghazis, and martyrs and express its unflinching solidarity with their families.

I don’t see the tragic incidents of May 9 as merely a protest that became violent. The designs of those who planned them were actually very sinister. There was a clear build-up to the shameful incidents, as the whole nation witnessed in utter disbelief and a state of shock how the lust of some people for power made them do what was never done before.

By targeting, desecrating and destroying the monuments of Shuhada, and attacking the very symbols of the State, the miscreants attacked the Idea & identity of Pakistan and gave the enemies of the country reasons to celebrate.

Our nation knows how to protect the honour of their martyrs. The tragic and heart-rending events of May 9 are a wake-up call for us. We have to identify and expose all such people who want to destroy the foundations of Pakistan. May 9 has drawn up a dividing line between the protectors and builders of Pakistan and those who wish to weaken it.

Today we revive and reiterate our pledge to uphold the honour & respect of our Shuhada. The essence of Pakistan’s existence lies in the spiritual covenant between its people and the martyrs. The creation of Pakistan is a miracle of the 20th century and its edifice stands on the sure foundation of their sacred blood. We will never be able to thank them enough.

"Shaheed ki jo Maut hai Woh Qaum ki Hayat hai
Lahoo jo hai Shaheed ka Wo Qaum ki Zakat hai"

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, tri-services chiefs, retired services officers, and representatives of civil society also paid homage to the martyrs, acknowledging their everlasting sacrifice and the enduring inspiration they provide to future generations. They reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would never be forgotten, regardless of the propaganda spread by Pakistan's adversaries.

On this solemn occasion, the nation stands united in remembering and honoring its brave martyrs, demonstrating unwavering solidarity with their families and a commitment to preserve their legacy for generations to come.
